This nidra recording is an invitation to open to the gifts of wonder and abundance, birthrights we have. The invitation is to a fully embodied felt sensation beyond ideas, and the limitations of our conditioning and negative self-talk.
On the night of recording, by the end, guided in this liminal space of yoga nidra, I ended up seeing participants like honeycakes, bathing in the consciousness nectar of unboundaried generosity. Golden, sweet, delightful.
Yoga Nidra is a guided lying down meditation practice for deep relaxation and personal insight. Join me, Fiona, from Viveka Gardens Retreat Place in rural Devon, online and in real life, for restful practice in tune with the rhythms of nature.
About Yoga Nidra
Nidra means sleep. In yoga nidra you retain awareness while allowing the mind waves to slow to the frequencies of dream and deep sleep. Your system is able to rest deeply while accessing the subconscious.
Unless you actually fall asleep, which can be blissful and needed. With practice, this becomes less often.
With practice you can use nidra to enquire about or affirm your path (as has been the case in the visioning and evolution of VG).
Do not listen to this while driving. Ideally, afterwards have a chilled time and some warm herbal tea. Should you be going out, please eat something, maybe have a caffeinated drink, and chat or sing to bring you fully back into your body, mind, and senses.
New to yoga nidra?
If you are new to yoga nidra here is some more information (including about Sankalpa, which is mentioned in the nidra) and the first 15 minutes of this recording on Spotify has spoken guidance on preparing for nidra.
More about The Gift
I have recently posted about The Gift, with a journal exercise to identify, honour and grow your gifts. It’s a useful review at any time you feel yourself in transition. Indeed, it could be great if you are looking back at year end and forward to your next season The piece includes tips if you are new to journalling, or stuck.
In this nidra…
…which was given live on the eve of the feast of St Nicholas, 5th November 2025, I introduced the online gathered folk to Sinterklass.
Wonderworks and extraordinary generosity
Nicholas was revered for his wonderworks (quelling seas so saving sailors’ lives, resurrecting three murdered children, busting innocent men from prison and certain execution) and for extraordinary acts of generosity.
There’s a story that to save three impoverished daughters from likely indentured labour or prostitution, he flung three purses of gold coins down their chimney, each landing in a stocking on the mantelpiece.
The season of the gift - all year round
At the time of recording it is Advent, when Christians await the gift of God incarnated on earth, here to share our sorrows and joys, and embody the hope that is God’s love for each and every one of us. Whether you ‘get’ the birth, life and death of Jesus or not, it is the season of generosity and, we hope, some measure of wonderous transformation.
This is all amongst curious mix of joy and sorrow of being human, and the conundrum of peace and love with late stage capitalism.
This nidra can, of course, be practised any time of year. Times when you feel it is important to connect with gifts given and received, unboundaried generosity, towards you and emanating from you.
